Bilaspur city is about 400 years old and the name of “Bilaspur” is named after the Fisher-woman named “Bilasa”.
Despite of many natural calamities, It has developed a lot. It district is situated between 21.47° to 23.8° north latitudes and 81.14° to 83.15° east longitude.
district is surrounded by Korea district of Chhattisgarh state in the north, Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, Mungeli and Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh in the west, Balauda Bazar-Bhatapara district of Chhattisgarh in the south and Korba and Janjgir-Champa districts of Chhattisgarh in the east.
The area of the district is 5815.87 square kilometer. The total population of the district is approximately 1961922.
Presently 8 tehsils, 7 blocks and 909 villages are included in this district. It is the second-largest city after Raipur-Bhilai-Durg Tri-City Metro area.
The High Court of Chhattisgarh is located at village Bodri in district it has privileged it with the title ‘Nyayadhani'(Law Capital) of the state. The High Court of Chhattisgarh is the largest High Court of Asia. this is the administrative headquarter of this distric.
